Remedies (upaya) are where Jyotish is most often abused — sold in bulk, prescribed by people who also happen to sell the stone, the rudraksha or the puja. A remedy is a precise instrument: a gemstone strengthens a graha, and strengthening the wrong graha can press on exactly the area you wanted to relieve. The honest practice is to read the chart first, prescribe only what genuinely fits, and sometimes to recommend no remedy at all.
