Free big three calculator (sun moon rising calculator). Your sun sign, moon sign and rising sign together in the tropical zodiac, each with its degree.
The big three are your sun sign, moon sign and rising sign — the three placements most Western astrology starts from. The sun sign is your core identity, the moon sign your emotions and inner life, and the rising sign (ascendant) the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at your birth, read for the face you present. This page shows all three together in the tropical zodiac, each with its exact degree.
Because the ascendant is the fastest-moving of the three: it changes sign roughly every two hours, and its degree changes even faster. A birth time off by even an hour can put your rising sign in a different sign entirely. Your sun sign changes about once a month and your moon sign every two or three days, so neither strictly needs the birth time — but entering it also gives the exact degrees and houses.
The big three is the starting slice of the chart: the sun, moon and rising signs with their degrees. A full birth chart goes further — all seven classical planets, the four angles, element and modality balance, the chart ruler, stelliums, retrogrades, and the traditional dignities and condition. Start with the big three here; use the birth chart calculator for the whole chart.
This page uses the tropical zodiac (signs measured from the equinoxes, as in Western astrology); Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars, with an ayanamsa of roughly 24 degrees. Because of the offset, a placement can differ by about a sign between the two systems — both are internally consistent, they just answer in different coordinates.
No. Aspects between planets, and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, are part of the modern tradition and are not computed by this tool — it shows exactly the big three: your sun, moon and rising signs with their degrees, and the houses and retrograde flags for the two planets. If you need a modern chart with aspects, a mainstream Western charting site will do that.
