Name Numerology Calculator

Your name number is the digit-sum of every letter in your name, reduced to a single digit using the Pythagorean table (A=1..I=9, J=1..R=9, S=1..Z=8) — with 11, 22 and 33 preserved as master numbers. It is read as the vibrational signature numerologists associate with the spelling of your name.

Pythagorean name-number calculator. Enter the name you actually use day-to-day; the tool maps each letter A–Z to its Pythagorean digit, sums them, and reduces to a single digit — preserving master numbers 11, 22 and 33 when the chain lands on them. Diacritics, spaces and punctuation are stripped before scoring.

Diacritics, spaces, punctuation and digits are ignored. Use the form of the name you actually use day-to-day for the most relevant reading.

Frequently asked

What is a name number in Pythagorean numerology?

A name number is the single digit (or master number 11, 22 or 33) obtained by mapping every letter of a name to a value 1–9 using the Pythagorean table — A=1..I=9, J=1..R=9, S=1..Z=8 — summing all letters, and reducing by repeated digit-sum to a single digit. It is treated as the vibrational signature numerologists associate with that spelling of the name.

How is Pythagorean numerology different from Chaldean (Indian) numerology?

The Pythagorean system maps letters to digits 1–9 strictly in alphabetical order and preserves the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. The Chaldean system used in Indian / Vedic tradition maps by phonetic vibration rather than alphabetic position, never assigns 9 to any letter, and typically reduces all results to 1–9. Most modern Western name-numerology tools — and this calculator — use Pythagorean. For the Chaldean / Vedic version of name analysis, see Naam-ank on the main numerology page.

What are master numbers, and why aren't they reduced?

11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers in the Pythagorean tradition. They are believed to carry a more intense, often more challenging version of their reduced single digit (2, 4 and 6 respectively) and are conventionally left unreduced so the practitioner can read both layers. This calculator preserves master numbers in the final result whenever the digit-sum chain lands on them.

What does each name number mean?

Pythagorean tradition reads the single digits roughly as: 1 leadership and independence; 2 partnership and diplomacy; 3 expression and creativity; 4 structure and discipline; 5 freedom and change; 6 service and harmony; 7 introspection and analysis; 8 ambition and material mastery; 9 completion and compassion. Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 add a spiritual / visionary / teacher dimension to 2, 4 and 6.

Which form of my name should I enter — full legal name, nickname, or signature?

Numerologists differ. The most common approach is to enter the name you actually use day-to-day (how you introduce yourself and sign), because that is the spelling carrying the most vibration in your life. Many practitioners then also compute the full legal name as a second reading and compare. This tool computes whatever string you enter — try a few variations.

Should I change the spelling of my name based on its number?

Numerology is a symbolic tool, not a prescription. Even within the tradition, changing the spelling of a name is treated as a corrective measure used only when a clear conflict is identified by an experienced numerologist, and only after considering the broader birth-date numbers. We do not recommend acting on a name-number result alone.

Are name-numerology readings predictive or scientific?

No. Numerology is a symbolic, interpretive system with a long cultural history; it is not a science and does not produce evidence-based predictions about a person's future. The number this tool computes is a deterministic arithmetic value with a traditional interpretation attached — use it as a reflective lens, not a forecast.
