Free Vedic compatibility — the 36-point Ashtakoot system computed from real Lahiri-sidereal birth charts for both people. Each of the 8 koots is reported with its score, classical citation, and what it actually measures.
How to use it
- Enter boy's birth details: Date, time, place — autocomplete fills coordinates.
- Enter girl's birth details: Same fields.
- Compute: We compute both birth charts and score the 8 koots live.
- Read the breakdown: Per-koot earned/max + classical-text citation for each rule.
Frequently asked
What is Gun Milan / Kundli Milan?
Gun Milan (also called Kundli Milan or Ashtakoot Milan) is the classical Vedic compatibility check between a prospective bride and groom. Eight separate factors (koots) are scored from the two birth charts, and the sum out of 36 is taken as a numerical compatibility verdict.
How are the 36 points broken down across the 8 koots?
Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7, Nadi 8 — total 36. Nadi and Bhakoot together carry 15 of the 36 points, which is why they dominate the final score and why a failing Nadi or Bhakoot is treated seriously even when the overall total looks acceptable.
What is considered a passing or good score?
Classical practice treats a total of 18 or above as acceptable, 24+ as good, and 28+ as excellent. Below 18 is treated as poor compatibility on the Ashtakoot axis alone. The total is necessary but not sufficient — the per-koot breakdown matters more than the headline number.
Does Gun Milan check Mangal (Manglik) Dosha?
No. The 36-point Ashtakoot system is a separate analysis. Manglik / Mangal Dosha is checked from the placement of Mars in either chart and is a parallel axis of compatibility. A complete kundli-milan reading checks both Ashtakoot and Mangal dosha (and ideally Navamsa) together.
We got a high total but Nadi or Bhakoot failed — does that matter?
Yes. Nadi Dosha (same nadi) is traditionally treated as a serious objection to marriage on its own — same-nadi pairs are said to indicate progeny or health concerns — and the classical texts list several cancellations (e.g. different rashi lords, both moons in the same rashi, etc.). Bhakoot dosha on the 6-8 or 2-12 axis is similarly weighty. A high total with one of these failing should be examined by an astrologer rather than waved through on the score alone.
Can Kundli Milan be done without the time of birth?
Yes — Ashtakoot is computed primarily from each person's Moon nakshatra and rashi, both of which depend mainly on date and approximate time. Because the Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, an unknown birth time can still keep the rashi stable on most days, but on a transition day the nakshatra (and therefore Yoni, Tara, Gana and Nadi) can change. For maximum accuracy provide birth time to the nearest 15 minutes.
