A birth chart (natal chart) is the sky drawn for the exact moment and place of your birth: which sign every planet occupied, which sign was rising, and how the chart is divided into houses. This tool casts it the traditional way — tropical zodiac, whole-sign houses and the seven classical planets — and cites every traditional judgement to its classical source.

A birth chart and a natal chart are the same thing — two names for the chart of the sky at your birth. A kundali (kundli) is the Vedic version of the same idea, drawn in the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical zodiac this tool uses. Because the two zodiacs are offset by roughly 24 degrees, placements can differ by about a sign between the two systems.

Because this is a traditional (Hellenistic) chart. Whole-sign houses — each sign counted as one house from the ascendant — and the seven classical planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) are what the classical authorities, from Ptolemy to William Lilly, actually used. Aspects, Placidus houses and the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are modern additions that this tool does not compute.

The classical tradition is text-based: Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, Vettius Valens' Anthologies and William Lilly's Christian Astrology (1647) define what domicile, exaltation, triplicity, sect and the rest mean. Those texts are in the public domain, so every statement can carry its exact source. Where a claim would have to lean on a copyright-restricted modern translation, it is withheld rather than quoted.

The tropical zodiac (used here and by most Western astrology) measures signs from the equinoxes; the sidereal zodiac (used by Vedic astrology) measures them against the fixed stars, applying the ayanamsa — currently about 24 degrees. A placement that is, say, 5 degrees into Gemini tropically is 5 degrees into Taurus sidereally. Both systems are internally consistent; they just answer in different coordinates.
