Purnima Calendar — पूर्णिमा

Purnima is the 15th tithi of Shukla Paksha — the full moon day. It occurs once per lunar month and carries the name of the corresponding lunar month: Kartik Purnima, Sharad Purnima, Vaishakh Purnima and so on. Exact timing depends on when the Moon reaches 180° from the Sun in a given city’s local panchang.

Significance of Purnima

The full moon is considered the peak of positive lunar energy in the Vedic calendar. Major festivals fall on Purnima: Guru Purnima (Ashadha), Sharad Purnima (Ashwin), Kartik Purnima (associated with Dev Deepawali and the Pushkar Mela), and Holi (Phalguna). Satyanarayan Vrat, widely observed across India, is performed on Purnima. The date shifts by time zone — local sunrise determines when Purnima begins and ends.
