अक्षय तृतीया

Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya — the akshaya (undiminishing) tithi on which any meritorious action is held to yield perpetual fruit. Cited in the Bhavishya Purana and Skanda Purana, the day is associated with the descent of Ganga to earth, the birth of Parashurama, and the beginning of the Treta Yuga. Traditionally observed with gold purchases, dana, and the annual reopening of the Badrinath temple doors.
