The reading

Pitra Dosha refers to a karmic affliction connected to the ancestral line (the pitris) — traditionally read from afflictions to the Sun (father / paternal line) and Moon (mother / maternal line) by Rahu or Saturn, from affliction of the 9th house and its lord (dharma, father, fortune), and from related combinations such as the Sun–Rahu conjunction (sometimes called Pitra Rina, ancestral debt). It is understood less as a punishment and more as unfinished karmic accounting — duties or harmony in the family lineage that remain to be settled, often through remembrance and service rather than fear.

This is a sensitive subject and we treat it with care and respect, not as a sales lever. Like the other dosha conditions, Pitra Dosha is frequently asserted on thin evidence. A single planetary contact does not establish it; the indicators must genuinely converge. Equally, where the indicators are present, the traditional response is dignified and devotional — tarpan, shraddha, remembrance of ancestors — not expensive panic remedies.

This report examines whether the classical indicators are actually present in your chart and how strong they are, what they may point to in the ancestral line, and the respectful observances the tradition prescribes. Where the chart is silent on this, we will say so plainly.

What you'll actually uncover

Read against the classics

  • Pitra Dosha as a named label is a folk/later formulation, so we do not assert an inherited curse — we read the affliction of the 9th house and its lord (father, dharma, ancestry) and of the Sun by classical principles, and report whether the indicators genuinely converge. [Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra]
  • The Sun afflicted by Rahu (and the 9th lord's placement and dignity) is graded as strong, moderate, mild or not-indicated from how the contact actually reads, rather than being declared from a single conjunction. [Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra]
  • Where protective or cancelling factors sit on the 9th or its lord, they are named and weighed too — so the report frames tendencies, not certainties, with the affliction read honestly for its real strength. [Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra]

What's included

Whether the indicators are present, and their strength

We check the recognized classical signatures: the Sun afflicted by Rahu/Ketu or Saturn (especially Sun–Rahu, Pitra Rina); the Moon similarly afflicted (maternal line); affliction of the 9th house and its lord (the prime ancestral and dharma axis); the involvement of the 2nd (family/kula) and the relevant dispositors. We report whether these genuinely converge into a Pitra Dosha pattern, and grade it as strong / moderate / mild / not indicated — rather than asserting it from one contact.

Which ancestral line or karma is implicated, per classical signs

Based on whether the Sun (paternal), Moon (maternal), 9th-lord, or specific houses carry the affliction, we indicate which side of the lineage and what theme — such as unfulfilled duties toward elders, disturbance around progeny, or a sense of broken continuity — the classical signs point toward. We keep this to what the chart actually shows.

Effects on progeny, prosperity and peace — read honestly

The areas the tradition most associates with ancestral karma: difficulties or delays around children (the 5th house and progeny is classically linked to ancestral patterns), obstacles to steady prosperity and family harmony, and a recurring sense of effort not translating to ease. We frame likelihoods, not certainties, and we note where the chart shows protective or cancelling factors. (For a dedicated 5th-house and progeny timing analysis, see Santan Timing.)

Respectful remedial observances

The dignified, devotional responses the tradition prescribes — explained so you can perform them meaningfully: tarpan (water offerings to ancestors), shraddha rites and their timing, observances during Pitru Paksha (the fortnight for the ancestors), the significance of Gaya and other tirtha for pind-daan, and Narayan Bali where indicated — each explained respectfully, with the spirit (remembrance, gratitude, settling of duty) emphasized over ritual mechanics. We recommend only what the indicators support.

Two follow-up questions

After you receive the report, you may ask two follow-up questions by message or email, and we will answer them to clarify anything in your reading.

प्रश्न

Frequently asked

Does Pitra Dosha mean my ancestors are angry with me?
That is not how the tradition frames it. It is better understood as unfinished karmic accounting in the lineage — duties of remembrance and harmony to be completed — addressed through gratitude and observance, not appeasement of anger. We treat it respectfully and calmly.
Can it be confirmed from just one planetary combination?
No, and asserting it from a single contact is a common error. The classical indicators — Sun/Moon affliction, the 9th house and its lord, and supporting factors — must genuinely converge. We test for that convergence before confirming anything.
Are the remedies expensive rituals I must pay for?
Not necessarily. The core observances — tarpan, shraddha, sincere remembrance during Pitru Paksha — can be performed with devotion and modest means. Larger rites like Gaya pind-daan or Narayan Bali are traditional options, not obligations, and we present them respectfully so you can decide.
What's not included?
  • We do not assert Pitra Dosha on thin evidence; if the indicators do not converge, the report says so honestly.
  • We do not perform, broker, or pressure you toward paid rituals; we explain the observances so you can undertake them meaningfully.
  • This is scoped to the ancestral-karma question; it is not a full life or progeny reading.
  • We do not predict specific tragedies; we frame tendencies and protective factors, with respect.
