वसन्त पञ्चमी

Magha Shukla Panchami, dedicated to Sarasvati — the goddess of learning, music, and the arts. Yellow garments are worn to greet the onset of vasanta (spring); books and musical instruments are venerated; and the day is considered an auspicious vidyarambha muhurta for a child's first writing of letters. The Devi Bhagavata Purana describes Sarasvati's manifestation on this tithi.
