Raksha Bandhan 2026
रक्षा बन्धन
The festival of the sacred protective bond, observed on the Purnima of Shravana Masa. Sisters tie a rakhi — a consecrated protective thread — on their brothers' wrists; the brothers in turn vow protection. The ritual is to be performed after the conclusion of any Bhadra (Vishti Karana) period prevailing on the tithi, per the Dharmasindhu and Nirnaya Sindhu. The day also marks Shravani Upakarma when the sacred thread (yajnopavita) is renewed.
